Sonja Sohn, actress in the HBO drama “The Wire,” led Baltimore’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration as a grand marshal for Monday’s 16th annual parade.
The Maryland city’s Office of promotion and the Arts appointed Sohn and Ravens running back Justin Forsett for the honor.
Sohn famously played detective Shakima “Kima” Greggs on the Baltimore-based series. When the hit show ended in 2008, she founded the ReWired for Change non-profit with her HBO co-stars to help the city’s at-risk youth.
The organization has made Sohn a local power figure.
Over 50 local high schools, performing arts groups, and organizations such as the NAACP participated in parade showcasing music, dance and of course colorful floats.
